From what age is the Shenmen piercing recommended?

Although an ear piercing is like an earring, it still matters from what age the Shenmen piercing is recommended. If you would like this kind of wellbeing body jewellery but are not yet 18, it is worth reading our article below.

Would you like to find out what exactly the Shenmen piercing is and what the experiences with it are? We also go into more detail about from what age the Shenmen piercing is recommended, and then we show you how the piercing process works.

What can the Shenmen piercing do?

Stimulation of the Shenmen point in the ear may have an effect on the whole body. It was first used with patients with addictions, to help them quit by stimulating the point, and then in Europe people who already have this kind of jewellery also reported further beneficial effects.

A few important statements about the Shenmen piercingmade by our guests:

  • It eased anxiety and stress and contributed to a lasting positive mood.
  • Allergy symptoms decreased.
  • Headaches eased; for many it also had a positive effect on migraine.
  • It also lastingly eased tinnitus; according to some reports, it stopped it completely.
  • Thousands reported quality sleep after their piercing was put in.

It is important to note that individual experiences may vary, and not everyone reacts in the same way to wearing a Shenmen piercing. Some feel its effects, while in others its effect is less noticeable. It is always important to be aware that these effects depend on individual sensitivity and on the reactions of the person’s body, and in my experience, another piercing may sometimes be needed to achieve a positive result.

What do people who already have one say?

We have gathered together the feedback we have received:

  • Stress reduction: Stimulation of the Shenmen point and wearing the piercing helped many of our guests reduce stress and reach a calmer state.
  • Supporting emotional stability: Many have noticed that wearing a Shenmen piercing has contributed to their emotional stability and to maintaining emotional balance.
  • Improving general wellbeing: Our guests who wear the piercing often found that their general wellbeing improved and that they handle everyday stressful situations more easily.

From what age is the Shenmen piercing recommended?

Doctors and piercing specialists generally recommend the Shenmen piercing from the age of 16, although this may also depend on the internal rules of piercing studios. In some places this kind of piercing is done at a younger age with parental consent, but in general it is recommended from the age of 16–18. It is always worth finding out about the rules of the chosen studio in advance and consulting the piercing specialist.

How is the piercing done? Is it painful?

The level of pain when a Shenmen piercing is placed can vary depending on the individual sensitivity of the ear and the person’s pain threshold. In general, a piercing in the upper part of the ear may involve less painthan, for example, piercing through a cartilage area.

The Shenmen piercing it should be placed by an experienced, properly trained specialistwho works precisely, in a sterile environment and with sterile instruments. It is important that the piercing is carried out in professional conditions, with thorough preparation and the right technique.

However, everyone may feel the pain of the piercing differently. Some feel only slight pressure or discomfort, while for others the pain may be more intense. This kind of pain usually lasts only a short time and fades quickly after the piercing.

The steps of placing a Shenmen piercing:

1. Preparation, assessment: The first and most important step is asking you questions and taking your medical history, then assessing the condition of your ear. After this we clean the area of the ear where the piercing will be placed, which is important to reduce the risk of infection.

2. Marking the piercing site: Using a small pencil / marker, we mark the Shenmen point on your ear. As the exact location of the point can vary from person to person, expertise and precision are especially important at this stage.

3. The piercing itself: The marked point is pierced with a sterile needle. This takes only a few moments; many people don’t even feel it, while others describe it as if “an insect had bitten them”. After this, we insert the earring through the opening that has been created.

4. Rest time, going through important information: Once your earring is in, we go through the essential information about caring for the piercing and about the healing period. We keep an eye on you for a little while to make sure you are all right, not dizzy and not bleeding, and then we let you go home.

5. Follow-up: 2 weeks after the piercing we call you to find out how healing is going and whether you feel any change. If not, under the guarantee we place another piercing for you. By then, the price of the second Shenmen piercing will be much more favourable.

However, it is important to look after the piercing properly, follow the aftercare instructions and keep an eye on the condition of the ear in order to avoid infections or other complications. If someone is worried about the pain, it is worth discussing the process and the possible ways of relieving pain with the specialist doing the piercing beforehand. I offer the chance to do this during the preliminary assessment.

Our wellbeing piercings do not count as a cure and do not replace medical treatment; the description of their effectiveness is based on our guests’ feedback.

If you have parental permission, we look forward to welcoming you in our studio!
