The headache piercing worked after 4 weeks. I had been tormented by headaches for months, and now they disappeared from one day to the next – I hope they don’t come back!

Before the piercing
Which blood thinners can you have a piercing while taking?
It is possible while taking ASA Protect and aspirin derivatives; other blood thinners are best paused for 2–3 days with your doctor’s consent.
From what age do we do fashion piercings / wellbeing piercings?
Fashion piercings from age 10 with parental consent, and wellbeing piercings from age 14 (for girls we also take menstruation into account).
With cancer, can a piercing be done if the client is undergoing treatment?
Yes, with the doctor’s permission; if they don’t give permission, then no.
How much will it hurt?
For most of our guests it doesn’t hurt; at most they report slight discomfort.
In which cases can we give you a certificate?
For absence from school or work (for one or two hours), a sterile-needle certificate (sterile jewellery inserted in sterile conditions), and if your workplace asks for a certificate because piercings otherwise couldn’t be worn there (we state that it is a wellbeing piece, not fashion jewellery).
Is wearing glasses all the time a problem with a Shenmen piercing?
It’s not a problem, but bring your glasses with you, because we take the arm of the glasses into account when piercing.
Effect and guarantee
Does it cure illnesses?
The jewellery has no therapeutic effect, but for 93% of our clients – based on their own feedback – it considerably eases or stops certain symptoms.
Can you lose weight from the jewellery?
The effect of the Slim piercing is reducing appetite, increasing the feeling of fullness and reducing cravings for sweets. Inserting the jewellery does not directly burn fat, but it can complement a diet or a change in lifestyle.
When does the jewellery start to work?
The jewellery usually takes effect within 6–8 weeks, but this depends on the body: both when it starts to work and how long it works are individual.
How long can the jewellery stay in? How long does the effect last?
As long as the jewellery is having an effect, it can safely stay in – and even afterwards, but in that case we usually recommend a reinforcing piercing on the other side. How long the effect lasts varies from person to person and depends on the body.
What does the guarantee mean?
The guarantee can be claimed if the jewellery has no effect or not enough effect. In this case we usually offer a reinforcing piercing in the other ear. This can be used within a maximum of 6 months after the piercing and costs 5,000 HUF.
In everyday life
Can you do sport after the piercing?
Yes, but you should do a lighter workout, which means no heavy weights and no intense cardio for 1–2 days.
Can you go to the hairdresser or colour your hair?
Yes, but only carefully, and hair dye must never get on the fresh piercing. Shampoo must also be rinsed off thoroughly.
Can it be exposed to strong sunlight?
Neither strong sunlight nor a sunbed is recommended in the 2–3 weeks after the piercing.
Can you swim with it?
Salty seawater doesn’t harm it and may even help it heal, but you should still rinse it with clean water after swimming, and the ear shouldn’t soak for long. We don’t recommend swimming in a pool for 2–3 weeks because of the chemicals in the water.
Can you use earplugs or earphones?
We don’t recommend using them for 2–3 weeks, and even after that only very carefully. It is a good idea to disinfect your earphones and earplugs too.
What should you do if you need an MRI or CT scan?
In that case you should ask for a check-up appointment and we will swap the piercings for silicone jewellery; after the scan, at another appointment, we put the original jewellery back.
Jewellery
What material is the jewellery made of?
All our jewellery is made of G23 titanium : the highest-quality, hypoallergenic medical-grade metal.
Which one can be used if you have a metal allergy?
Even with a metal allergy we recommend G23 titanium jewellery, because it is the least allergenic medical-grade metal. If, very rarely, there is a sensitivity to this too, we agree on a solution at the assessment (with exact specifications if you bring your own jewellery). With a metal allergy no other medical-grade metal can be used, because it is an alloy and there may be cross-contamination.
From when do we recommend changing the piercing?
After 6 months, because the chance of inflammation is lower.
Does the jewellery lose its effect if we swap it for silicone because of a scan or examination?
No, because the silicone jewellery stimulates the point in the same way – only the material is different.
What happens if the head of the jewellery breaks off?
In this case the head doesn’t break off but unscrews. Try to keep the other half in, because unfortunately the piercing hole can close up within a few minutes. Let’s find a check-up appointment for a jewellery change!
Where can you buy jewellery if you’d like to bring your own rather than choose from ours?
We usually recommend the Bodymod online shop, which has a wide selection of good-quality jewellery, and the Apacs jewellery shop, which has stores in several shopping centres.
What you need to watch out for is buying the jewellery with the right specifications. For a ring (this goes in the migraine point, and can also be used as fashion jewellery) we recommend 6 mm jewellery with a 1.2 mm bar thickness and a clicker closure. For labret-type jewellery (menopause, Slim, liver, spleen, allergy) an 8 mm piece is inserted too; for a change we recommend 6 mm, with a 1.2 mm bar and an external or internal thread.
Why can’t we pierce with a 6 mm bar?
Because it is completely normal for the area to swell after piercing, and it is important that the jewellery doesn’t press on the ear even then. We recommend changing it after healing.
Healing and aftercare
How long does healing take?
Full healing can take up to 4–6 months; this depends on the body.
How long can the piercing wound bleed?
Bleeding may occur for 1–2 days, but depending on the body, or if the ear gets knocked, it may still bleed even after 1 week.
Which symptoms are part of normal healing?
In the few days after the piercing, bleeding (dried blood in the morning), swelling and red or possibly purplish discolouration are completely normal.
What is no longer a normal symptom?
You definitely need a check-up if the ear swells to twice its size, throbs a lot or has pus.
Can you move the jewellery?
Piercings in cartilage must not be moved, but fashion jewellery in the soft lower part of the ear should be turned every evening while wet; these take 6 weeks to heal.
What do we recommend for aftercare?
We usually recommend the aftercare kit you can buy from us, which contains natural ingredients and was developed specifically for aftercare of ear cartilage; it includes a disinfecting spray and an anti-inflammatory oil, which should be used together for as long as the piercing site is sensitive. It is also very important to rinse the ear under the shower with clean water every evening to wash off the day’s dirt.
How should you use the aftercare products?
You can use the spray morning and evening, especially if during the day you are or work somewhere with a higher risk of infection, but the oil only in the evening, because it can attract dust. The first step is the shower, then the spray; let it dry a little, and then drip the oil onto the piercing sites – you don’t need a cotton bud, because it has a small dropper nozzle.
What do they recommend for reducing inflammation?
First of all we usually recommend gentamicin cream, which is available without a prescription. If that doesn’t help, we recommend Oxycort spray, which needs to be prescribed by your GP; it contains a steroid, so the ear heals faster.
What happens if I have “proud flesh” on my ear?
In most cases this isn’t proud flesh but tissue overgrowth, which is a small blister filled with blood. You need to come back to us for a check-up appointment so that our colleagues can treat the area.

I had a migraine and a Shenmen piercing done at the Kecskemét location. The specialist was very kind and helpful, and I am completely satisfied. The next day I had a headache, but that is normal; since then I have had no complaints, and the aftercare is going fine too – it doesn’t hurt at all.
