Shenmen piercing for panic disorder?

Panic disorder should not be ignored! People who have already experienced it often worry about further attacks happening and try to avoid situations or activities that could trigger another attack at any time.

But what is panic disorder? How does the Shenmen piercing work for panic disorder? You can get answers to all your questions from our article below!

What you need to know about panic disorder

Causes of panic disorder

The exact cause of panic disorder is not known, but it is probably a combination of several factors, such as:

  • Genetic predisposition
  • Stressful life situations
  • Biological differences in the brain
  • Psychological factors (e.g. difficulties managing stress)

How the diagnosis is made

Panic disorder is usually diagnosed by a psychiatrist or psychologist. During the diagnosis, the doctor takes into account the symptoms, their frequency and intensity, and rules out other possible physical illnesses.

Treating panic disorder

Treatment for panic disorder includes psychotherapy, medication or a combination of the two. Alternative methods can also be tried as a complementary therapy – for example, it may be worth trying whether the Shenmen piercing is really effective for you in the case of panic disorder symptoms.

Basically, panic disorder can be treated, and many people achieve significant improvement with the right treatment. However, it is important that treatment is continuous and that patients receive the support they need for long-term success.

The basics of the Shenmen piercing

A Shenmen piercing is a piece of wellbeing body jewellery that stimulates a specific point of the ear, the Shenmen point. The Shenmen point is in the upper part of the ear, and in our experience so far this point may help relieve anxiety and stress.

According to our guests’ reports, the calming, pulse-lowering effects of the Shenmen piercing are not negligible either; many have experienced a decrease in the intensity and number of panic attacks after the piercing was placed.

In our experience, the Shenmen piercing may help manage anxiety in the case of panic disorder. Wearing the piercing may reduce the complaints to a certain extent, but you should not rely on it alone. In the case of panic disorder, too, it is always important to consult a specialist!

Step by step: how a Shenmen piercing is done

A Shenmen piercing is done in 6 steps. Let’s look at them in detail!

1. Assessment: At Medical Piercing, the first step is for the specialist you have chosen to assess your needs regarding the piercing, examine the condition of your ear and ask about your medical history if you have any complaint or problem. You can ask us anything! We always explain the process and answer any questions you have. Then we start the preparation, which includes cleaning and disinfecting the area.

2. Preparation: Before the piercing, our specialist makes sure that every instrument is sterile-packed and ready for the procedure. This may include wearing medical gloves, using disinfectant solutions, and preparing sterile needles and jewellery.

3. Determining the exact place of the piercing: First, we mark the place of your piercing on your ear. The Shenmen piercing is usually located in the upper part of the ear cartilage. Before choosing the location, it is important to take into account the anatomy of your ear and your aesthetic preferences.

4. Placing the Shenmen piercing: Once the place has been marked, your piercer begins the piercing. For this we use a sterile needle, which is usually guided to the right place with the help of a piercing needle. It is important to carry out this process quickly and decisively, to minimise pain and injury.

5. Inserting the jewellery: As soon as the needle has passed through the ear, we quickly insert the jewellery. This jewellery may be a ring or a bar, depending on the type of piercing you prefer. The jewellery must meet health regulations and must be sterile before insertion, which is exactly why, at the Medical Piercing studio, for the first piercing we insert jewellery made of medical-grade metal that has been sterilised on site in an autoclave.

6. Final steps: Once the jewellery is in, our specialist cleans and disinfects the area, then gives you instructions on caring for the piercing and on the healing process. This usually includes using disinfectant solutions, cleaning the jewellery gently and touching it as little as possible during the healing period.

It is important to note that every piercing process may be a little different depending on the specialist’s preferences and the anatomy of the area. Always ask your piercer any questions you have, and follow the instructions they give during healing and piercing aftercare.

Our wellbeing piercings do not count as a cure and do not replace medical treatment; the description of their effectiveness is based on our guests’ feedback.

* The total number of piercings was higher than this. The statistic is not official. The piercing is not an officially recognised therapeutic device but a wellbeing piece of jewellery, whose effectiveness is based on experience and feedback.
