The healing time of the migraine piercing
The healing time of the migraine piercing can vary from person to person, just like the perception of pain during and after the piercing. Although there is a defined time frame, some of my guests reported healing sooner, others later. It is important to know that there are certain aftercare tasks that everyone has to do during the healing time of the migraine piercing. This can even prevent unwanted inflammation.
How much does the migraine piercing hurt and how is it inserted? What is the average healing time? What do you need to know about caring for the piercing? You can find the answers to these questions if you read my article below.
How much does the migraine piercing hurt?
A migraine piercing insertion involves mild, insect-bite-like pain. I have experienced this myself, and my guests also report only minor discomfort. However, we must not forget that the perception of pain is completely subjective, so it can vary from person to person. What is minimal discomfort for you may be serious pain for someone else.
After insertion, during the healing time of the migraine piercing, the ear may remain sensitive for a few more days, and you may not be able to lie on that side. However, this usually passes within 1–2 weeks.
How is the piercing done?
At Medical Piercing, before the piercing I carry out an assessment. I ask you about your headache complaints and your medical history, and I also assess the condition of your ear. Here, for example, I also look into how sensitive you are to pain and whether you have ever fainted.
This is followed by thorough and precise location, on the basis of which we can be sure that the migraine piercing goes in the right place. After all this the piercing itself takes only a few moments.
For the first piercing, by the way, the jewellery jewellery made of medical-grade metal, which I disinfect in an autoclave at the studio.

Once the jewellery is in place, we chat a little more, while you are sitting in the chair, to make sure that everything is fine with you. At this point we discuss all the further important tasks you need to follow during the healing time of the migraine piercing. Don’t worry about not being able to remember them all, because later, among other things, you will also receive information about this by e-mail.
I won’t let go of your hand! You can join my private migraine Facebook group, and after 2 weeks I will call you to ask whether everything is fine and whether you feel the positive effects of the piercing. If not, under the guarantee we arrange a new appointment to do the migraine piercing in your other ear as well.
How long is the healing time of the migraine piercing?
The healing time of the migraine piercing 8–12 weeks. Since it is cartilage tissue, this period is this long. However, just like the perception of pain, this can also vary from person to person.
It is important to be patient!
Signs of healing are that the ear and the area around the wound are:
· not painful
· not red
· and not swollen
When can the positive effects appear?
In the case of mild headaches, in 70–80% of cases the complaints decreased significantly after 1–2 days. At Medical Piercing, for 98 out of 100 guests the problems that had tormented them until then stopped within 2 weeks.
If you struggle with severe headaches, the migraine piercing alone may not be enough; in that case the combined effect of the migraine and the Shenmen piercing may reduce the frequency and intensity of headaches.
Watch out for these during the healing time!
