Is the Shenmen earring a popular method for tinnitus?

Tinnitus is part of a set of symptoms that is not caused by noise from an external source. We can experience it in many ways, and many problems can be listed among its causes. It is rarely caused by a serious illness, but it is worth having it examined first and having the underlying problem treated.

If you would like to find out more about tinnitus and the Shenmen piercing, read my short article on the subject below.

What you need to know about tinnitus

Tinnitus (from the Latin tinnitus) affects many people, and although it is a very disturbing complaint, rarely is there a serious problem behind it. The noise a person hears in this case can differ from person to person. It may be, for example:

· rumbling

· humming

· ringing

· crackling

· buzzing

· hissing

· droning

In addition, we basically distinguish two types:

  • Objective tinnitus: this type is rare. During the examination the doctor can also detect the tinnitus. It is usually caused by muscle tension or the displacement of one of the inner bones of the middle ear.
  • Subjective tinnitus: it cannot be heard from outside – only the person experiences it. It is much more common than the objective type, and is usually triggered by some problem of the outer, middle or inner ear.

Tinnitus can have many causes, for example:

· ear infections

· one-off / long-term noise exposure

· old age

· a foreign body in the ear canal

· accumulated earwax

· disturbed blood supply to the brain

· jaw joint problems

· side effects of medication

Besides all this, many causes may lie behind it, the investigation of which is a matter for doctors.

More and more can be done about tinnitus. If some abnormality was found during the examination, it is worth having it treated. In addition, an excellent alternative solution may be the Shenmen piercing.

How does the Shenmen piercing help with tinnitus?

Traditional Chinese Medicine distinguishes 5 main acupuncture points in the ear, known as NADA points, and of these the best known is the Shenmen point. The word Shenmen means “divine gate”. By stimulating this special point, located in the uppermost segment of the outer ear, many people have reported a calm, relaxed state, and they have also experienced positive effects on many other problems.

In a 2009 study carried out by Medical Acupuncture the effects of ear acupressure on tinnitus were examined. According to the results, tinnitus decreased with pressure on the acupressure points of the ear (including the Shenmen point), but this result was not significant, so further research on the subject would be needed.

What else can the Shenmen earring be good for?

Besides tinnitus, according to our guests, the Shenmen earring has also helped them with the following problems:

  • depression / mood swings
  • headaches, migraine
  • addiction
  • sleep problems
  • allergy
  • chronic stress
  • joint pain

What do the reviews say?

Nothing could confirm better how effective the Shenmen piercing is than my guests’ reviews. I have brought you a few of them!

It really does take 2 weeks before you feel the effect of the Shenmen piercing, but it is worth the wait, and worth the tiny discomfort you feel during the piercing! I am much calmer and more balanced, and my body aches less here and there.

I had read a lot of negative reviews about the Shenmen, but I thought: I like a challenge, let’s see what it can do for everyday stress. I have had it for about 4 weeks, so I can now say from experience that I cope with obstacles much more easily. Thanks, Gabi!

Unfortunately, sleep problems run in our family, which makes us more stressed than we should be. I hadn’t found a “couldn’t-care-less pill” anywhere; I had only read about the Shenmen piercing, that it has a positive effect on all of these. Then Gabi did the piercing, and for 3 weeks now I have been sleeping so well that even my stress has eased. Thank you!

* The total number of piercings was higher than this. The statistic is not official. The piercing is not an officially recognised therapeutic device but a wellbeing piece of jewellery, whose effectiveness is based on experience and feedback.
