Where is the Shenmen acupuncture point?

1.0 (1 rating)

The Shenmen acupuncture point is particularly important among wellbeing body jewellery. As more and more people are interested in the method, in our blog we try to answer the questions that often come up.

Read on to find out more about acupuncture, the location of the Shenmen acupuncture point and the important things to do during the healing period!

A few words about acupuncture

Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which focuses on the energy pathways of the human body and the vitality flowing through them, the so-called “chi”. Chi means life force or energy, and according to Chinese medicine the flow of energy in the body determines our state of health.

According to the principle of acupuncture, the energies in the body are in balance, and to maintain a healthy state, chi must flow freely along the energy pathways, which are called meridians. If the energy pathways become blocked or unbalanced, this can lead to illnesses or health problems.

During acupuncture treatment, thin needles are placed under the skin at the so-called acupuncture points, which are found along the meridians. Placing and stimulating the needles helps normalise the flow of energy and restore health.

Acupuncture treatments can be used widely, from pain relief to the management of stress and anxiety. Acupuncture is also used for various conditions such as digestive problems, sleep problems, allergies and other chronic illnesses.

Although the mechanism of action of acupuncture is not fully understood by modern science, some research suggests that the treatment stimulates nervous system processes and releases neurotransmitters that contribute to maintaining a healthy state.

It is important to note that in certain countries acupuncture is treated as a complementary and alternative medical method, while elsewhere, for example in China, it is accepted and used as a traditional healing practice. In every case it is advisable to consult a specialist before choosing acupuncture treatment, especially if you have a chronic health problem.

The Shenmen piercing point

The term Shenmen usually refers to an acupuncture point of the ear that comes from Chinese medicine. In the ear, TCM distinguishes 5 main acupuncture points, known as NADA points , and the best known of these is the Shenmen point. The word means: “divine gate”. This point is located on the outer rim of the ear, on the antihelix. The Shenmen point is roughly at the upper part of the antihelix.

In Chinese medicine, the Shenmen acupuncture point is often used to manage stress, relieve anxiety and improve general wellbeing.

Shenmen piercing experiences

The Shenmen point is often used to manage stress and anxiety. In many cases it is also used to reduce headaches, but it may also help for example with sleep problems as well.

According to the feedback we have received, as a result of the Shenmen piercing:

  • pain decreased / went away
  • their general wellbeing improved
  • anxiety decreased
  • sleep problems eased

We have written about the Shenmen piercing in more detail in this article.

It is important to note, however, that the use of body jewellery is individual in every case, and it is worth asking for expert advice, especially if you would like to wear body jewellery near acupuncture points. Medical and hygiene aspects must always be taken into account, and piercings should only be done by trustworthy specialists. This is also why we recommend our studio, Medical Piercing, where trained and experienced piercing professionals work in a 100% hygienic and reliable way!

The Shenmen piercing during the healing period – what to look out for!

It is rare, but it can happen that the Shenmen acupuncture point becomes inflamed during the healing period of the piercing. Telltale signs may be if:

· you can feel an inflamed lump at the entry and exit holes of the wound

· the piercing site is painful

· you feel a burning sensation around the wound

· the area is red, throbbing, perhaps hot

See your piercing specialist, who can help you deal with the problem. In the meantime, keep your ear sterile!

There are certain aftercare steps during the healing time of the Shenmen piercing that you must follow. These are:

  • After the piercing has been placed, it is a good idea to spray the area morning and evening with Medical Piercing’s own aftercare spray while it is inflamed; then, 2 weeks after the piercing, 1 drop of oil can also go on the wound. You can buy the aftercare kit at our studio.
  • The piercing must not be moved for 10 days; after that, however, it is a good idea to move it gently once a day, ideally during the evening cleaning.
  • Don’t touch or fiddle with the jewellery and the area around the wound.
  • Don’t clean it with alcohol.
  • Avoid soaking your ear in a bath or swimming pool.
  • Avoid sunbeds, saunas and strong sunshine.
  • Make sure that no cosmetics get near the ear.
  • A under no circumstances change the jewellery before full healing for another piece! Always wait until the wound has healed.

So the Shenmen piercing needs close attention until the wound has fully healed. At Medical Piercing, however, we don’t leave you on your own right after the piercing! You will receive plenty of useful information from us later too, by e-mail.

What you need to know about the Shenmen piercing guarantee at Medical Piercing

the article doesn’t really make clear what is where, divine gate or whatever, we don’t know what happens if they pierce there or somewhere else, I bet they’re being secretive so nobody else pierces it cheaply?? a few years ago a guy in the Westend did a headache piercing for me for 6000 next to the Spar, and it started working immediately

You really don’t know what you’re doing or you’re just conning everyone. The shenmen point is on the wrist, you clowns. That is a protected name. Lucky for you there are lots of gullible people who can be conned🥲

* The total number of piercings was higher than this. The statistic is not official. The piercing is not an officially recognised therapeutic device but a wellbeing piece of jewellery, whose effectiveness is based on experience and feedback.
