Shenmen piercing for migraine?
For headaches that torment many and put them in bed from time to time, that is, migraine, many treatment methods now offer a permanent solution. It is hard to find your way among the many arguments for and against, so I am here to help.
From our article you can find out what the Shenmen piercing is, what effects our guests have reported, how it is inserted, and you can even read the opinions of people who use a Shenmen piercing for migraine.
Shenmen piercing for migraine?
AThe essence of acupuncture, which comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is to restore the balance of the whole body by stimulation with tiny needles, at points that specialists find along the meridians (energy channels).
Since, according to the view of acupuncture, illnesses are caused by blockages in the flow of life energy (Qi, or “chee”), they try to release these through the piercing.
TCM distinguishes 5 main acupuncture points in the ear, known as NADA points, and the best known of these is the Shenmen point. The word means “Divine gate”. By stimulating the special point located in the uppermost segment of the auricle, many have already experienced a calm, relaxed state, and have thereby also reported a reduction in their headaches and in various joint pains.
Some important statements about the Shenmen piercing made by our guests:
- It eased anxiety and stress and contributed to a lasting positive mood.
- Allergy symptoms decreased.
- Headaches eased; for many it also had a positive effect on migraine.
- It also lastingly eased tinnitus; according to some reports, it stopped it completely.
- Thousands reported quality sleep after their piercing was put in.

Inserting the Shenmen piercing
First of all, it is important to address the pain caused by the piercing, because this is what everyone asks us first. Since the perception of pain is completely subjective, meaning it is individual how much it affects whom, this question is hard to answer. However, I can summarise a few things for you.
Basically, we can divide guests into two “camps”:
1. There are those who don’t even feel it and describe the piercing as if an insect had just stung them. (they are in the majority)
2. Others feel unwell already at the disinfection and fear the pain in advance (which will not necessarily come)
Pain tolerance can be influenced by previous experiences, sleep quality, the menstrual cycle and the level of stress.
Partly in order to map your pain tolerance, we first carry out an assessment before inserting the Shenmen piercing. This means that we examine the condition of your ear, ask you about your complaints and take your medical history, and also cover why a Shenmen piercing may be a suitable alternative option for migraine.
After this, with pinpoint location we determine the exact place of your piercing on your ear.
Then the piercing happens in the blink of an eye, during which you too will most likely only experience an unpleasant feeling similar to an insect bite. However, this feeling is forgotten after the piercing made of medical-grade metal has been inserted.
After the piercing we chat for a few more minutes, meanwhile we observe the condition of the Shenmen piercing and how you feel.
If you would like a guarantee, we put it in writing, and with that we let you go home. Even after this we don’t let go of your hand, because you will regularly receive information by e-mail with important advice on wearing and caring for the piercing.
We consider following up our guests important, which is why after 2 weeks we ask you for feedback on how you have felt since the piercing was inserted and whether you have experienced any improvement. If not, under the guarantee we arrange another appointment for another piercing, which costs only the price of one piercing.

Reviews of the Shenmen piercing
I have brought you the reviews of my guests who use a Shenmen piercing for migraine as an alternative treatment.
The migraine piercing wasn’t enough…
First I had a migraine piercing, but somehow it didn’t bring the result I had hoped for. Then about 2 weeks later I went back to Medical Piercing, and they suggested the Shenmen as well. I agreed, because I didn’t want to take any more medication. I can say I absolutely don’t regret it! I am grateful that I didn’t give up, and thank you, Gabi, for your patience! I can only recommend it, especially the two together!
Enthusiastic fan
There’s no point taking medication unnecessarily – get the migraine piercing done as soon as possible (together with the Shenmen). You can be sure of its effect! This is the message from an experienced, enthusiastic “fan”!
For stress and headaches
I have struggled with tormenting headaches for years, because unfortunately my neck muscles constantly tense up due to stress. Since the piercings (Shenmen and migraine), however tense my neck gets, fortunately the headaches no longer torment me. Thank you to Gabi for the precise piercing!
Our wellbeing piercings do not count as a cure and do not replace medical treatment; the description of their effectiveness is based on our guests’ feedback.
