Migraine piercing care/aftercare

The migraine piercing site is essentially a puncture wound, which requires careful attention and aftercare. Migraine piercing care/aftercare will also be a topic at the studio after the piercing, but I have now also collected for you in writing what you need to know about piercing aftercare.

How is the migraine piercing inserted?

The conditions of the piercing can differ from studio to studio. I have heard of many different procedures, which is why it is important that once you have picked the studio where you would like your migraine piercing done, you find out about the preliminary tasks and things to know.

At the studio first of all I carry out an assessmentto make sure that you really need the migraine piercing and that it may really be effective for you. I also like to use it because it gives me a complete picture of your problem, and I can screen out any contraindications.

So during the assessment I ask you about your complaints and your medical history, and assess the condition of your ear too. This is followed by the device-assisted point location, which marks in a pinpoint and reliable way where I should pierce your piercing, so I can’t make a mistake either.

After this, the piercing itself takes only a few moments. The pain felt at that point is entirely individual; according to my guests’ accounts, an insect-bite-like sensation, but it passes once the piercing has been placed.

For the first piercing, by the way, the jewellery jewellery made of medical-grade metal, which I disinfect in an autoclave at the studio.

After the piercing I don’t let you go straight away; while you are still sitting in the chair we chat a little, I check that everything is fine with you, and if you don’t feel unwell (many people are afraid of needles and feel faint because of it), then I hand you the guarantee sheet and let you go home.

How migraine piercing care/aftercare works you can find out from me after the piercing too, but just to be on the safe side you will also receive it from me by e-mailafter you have left the studio. This will be followed by regular information e-mails, from which you can get the answer to all your questions. If you still don’t get satisfactory answers, I will add you to the closed Facebook migraine group where you can exchange experiences with people in the same situation.

And after two weeks I will call youto see whether everything is fine with you and your piercing, whether the migraine piercing care/aftercare went well, and how your new jewel has worked. If there is a problem, we arrange a new appointment for the piercing.

How much does placing a migraine piercing hurt?

The perception of pain is completely individual. Based on my experience so far, and what my guests have told me, most people felt only a small, momentary, insect-bite-like discomfort at the moment of piercing, which went away after a few minutes.

In my opinion this is a forgettable little pain that will be made up for by the positive effect of the piercing, that is, that your head doesn’t hurt as much and migraine comes on much less often.

Now let’s look at the most important things to know about migraine piercing care/aftercare!

Migraine piercing care/aftercare – what do you need to know?

A migraine piercing care/aftercare requires a lot of attention, because it is a puncture wound that requires basic aftercare. It is important to note that after the piercing it is normal for the wound to bleed a little for a few days.

Because it is a cartilage area, the healing time of the piercing may be 8–12 weeks, but this can vary from person to person. It is important to be patient!

These are the important tasks around migraine piercing care/aftercare:

  1. After the piercing has been placed, it is a good idea to spray the area morning and evening with Medical Piercing’s own aftercare spray while it is inflamed; then, 2 weeks after the piercing, 1 drop of oil can also go on the wound. You can buy the aftercare kit at our studio.
  2. The piercing must not be moved for 10 days; after that, however, it is a good idea to move it gently once a day, ideally during the evening cleaning.

Avoid the following:

  • fiddling with or touching the jewellery and the area around the wound
  • cleaning with alcohol
  • soaking in a bath or swimming pool
  • sunbeds, saunas, strong sunshine
  • cosmetics around the ear

It is also important to note that you should under no circumstances change the jewellery before full healing for another piece! Always wait until the wound has healed.

Signs of wound healing are that the ear and the wound area are:

  • not painful
  • not red
  • and not swollen

So, if migraine piercing care/aftercare is done according to these, there is a good chance that contributing to successful healing, and you will be able to enjoy the beneficial effects of the piercing in the long term.

The wound became inflamed despite migraine piercing care/aftercare – what should you do?

Despite regular migraine piercing care/aftercare, it may (in a small percentage of cases) happen that the wound becomes inflamed. In most cases this happens 4–5 weeks after the piercing, if dirt gets into the wound.

Symptoms of inflammation:

  • an inflamed lump at the entry and exit holes
  • the piercing site is painful
  • a burning sensation around the wound
  • the area is red, throbbing, possibly hot

What you can do yourself:

  • In this case, use Medical Piercing’s own aftercare spray morning and evening while the piercing site is inflamed; then, 2 weeks after the piercing, 1 drop of oil can also go on the wound.
  • Keep your ear as sterile as possible, and rinse it 2–3 times a day with the solution above.

Our wellbeing piercings do not count as a cure and do not replace medical treatment; the description of their effectiveness is based on our guests’ feedback.
