Migraine piercing: how long does it hurt after piercing?

As a professional, I am often asked how long migraine piercing hurts. SPOILER! There is no rule for this, because the perception of pain is completely subjective. However, there are certain factors that can play a part in it. Among other things, I cover these in my short article below.

How is the migraine piercing inserted?

Placing a migraine piercing really takes only a few moments; the preparation before it takes much more time, but it is an essential process. In my studio first of all I carry out an assessment, in which I ask about any illnesses you may have, your current complaints, and the frequency and intensity of your headaches.

This is followed by determining the piercing site with precise manual point location, so that we can be one hundred per cent sure that the jewellery goes into the right point.

Many people don’t even feel the piercing, which lasts only a moment, while some describe it as a feeling like an insect bite. The degree of pain depends on the individual. In any case, we chat for a few more minutes while you sit in the chair, and in the meantime I check that everything is fine with your ear and how you are feeling.

If everything is fine, I send you home with the guarantee sheet, and then 2 weeks later I call you to ask how you feel, whether the piercing has worked and whether it has had the desired effect. If there is no positive change, we arrange another appointment for a second piercing.

How long does migraine piercing hurt after piercing?

I am often asked how long migraine piercing hurts after piercing, but this is the hardest to answer, because the perception of pain depends greatly on the individual. My guests also report various experiences; as many people, as many ways of healing.

It is natural for the wound to be painful for a few days, as it is a puncture “injury” . The ear may also remain sensitive for weeks until the cartilage heals. Complete wound healing takes 8–12 weeks for cartilage, so it is important to be patient during this period.

How long migraine piercing hurts can also depend on this

As I have already mentioned, the perception of pain is completely subjective, so everyone experiences it differently. However, certain factors can influence this perception, for example:

  • lack of sleep
  • high, long-term stress
  • menstrual cycle
  • the quality of your diet
  • the amount of fluid you drink

So it is worth paying attention to these, not only in the case of migraine piercing, but with any chronic complaint.

Pay attention to these if you have had a migraine piercing

I mark the location of the migraine piercing – this site requires some aftercare after the piercing. Without it, unfortunately the wound may become infected and inflamed, which causes serious pain. So this too can greatly influence how long migraine piercing hurts.

Let’s look at the important information:

  • Don’t touch your ear and the area around the wound!
  • Don’t move the piercing!
  • Don’t let water get on it; avoid public baths and saunas for a few weeks.
  • Avoid strong sunshine.
  • Don’t use cosmetics around the ear.
  • Avoid cleaning the area around the wound with alcohol.

Some useful tips for caring for the piercing and the wound:

  • After the piercing has been placed, it is a good idea to spray the area morning and evening with Medical Piercing’s own aftercare spray while it is inflamed; then, 2 weeks after the piercing, 1 drop of oil can also go on the wound. You can buy the aftercare kit at our studio.
  • Don’t move the piercing for 10 days; after that, however, it is worth moving it once a day, ideally during the evening cleaning.

Another important thing to know is that you must not change the jewellery for another one before the healing time (8–12 weeks)! After healing I can also help you with the change, and you can even choose the perfect jewellery in my webshop and collect it at my studio!

If something has gone wrong and the wound has become inflamed, the following symptoms may indicate it:

  • an inflamed lump at the entry and exit holes
  • the piercing site is painful
  • a burning sensation around the wound
  • the area is red, throbbing, possibly hot

In this case see your migraine piercing professional as soon as possible!

Our wellbeing piercings do not count as a cure and do not replace medical treatment; the description of their effectiveness is based on our guests’ feedback.

Are you looking for a migraine piercing professional who won’t let go of your hand in the weeks after the piercing either, and who gives you all the important information about caring for the piercing? Then book in with me!

* The total number of piercings was higher than this. The statistic is not official. The piercing is not an officially recognised therapeutic device but a wellbeing piece of jewellery, whose effectiveness is based on experience and feedback.
