What home remedies are there for headaches at the back of the head?
Based on several sources, I have put together a little home “first aid kit” for you, which you can also use for headaches at the back of the head.
1. Massage your neck and shoulders. (It’s best if you can ask someone to do it. :))
2. Use a foam roller on your shoulder blades and upper back, and you can also massage the shoulder area with a small ball.
3. Stretch your neck! I have found an excellent video for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PIpFIt0m2o
4. Rub muscle-relaxing cream into your neck and shoulders.
5. Check whether the pillow and mattress you sleep on are the right size and firmness.
6. Avoid lying on your stomach, as it can tense the neck muscles!
7. Work on correct posture with the help of a physiotherapist.
When should you see a doctor?
Take headaches at the back of the head seriously, and be sure to see a doctor if:
- it came on suddenly
- the pain is particularly severe
- it has lasted for several weeks
- it was accompanied by loss of consciousness
- you experience confusion or drowsiness
- you feel dizzy
- you feel sick or have even vomited
Furthermore, it is also important to see a specialist if the pain was preceded by a head or neck injury, because in this case too, medical intervention may be needed for the headache at the back of the head!

Migraine piercing for headaches at the back of the head?
During acupuncture treatment, special thin needles are inserted along the meridians (usually several at once) in order to release the blockage standing in the way of life energy (Qi, i.e. chi).
The migraine piercing is also pierced into such a point, the fold above the ear canal, which is in a winding little piece of cartilage, so we are talking about a hard-to-reach place, which is why piercing it requires experience and precision.
We have received the following feedback about the migraine piercing:
- headaches decreased
- anxiety and other unpleasant symptoms easedthat weather sensitivity may have caused
According to many of our guests, this piercing helped not only with migraine, the complaint in its name, but also worked for them in easing the following headaches:
- weather-sensitive
- tension
- cluster
- hormonal

My story
Migraine has made my life miserable since I was a child, and stayed with me for a very long time. Later, since I worked in healthcare, I was lucky enough to undergo many examinations, and I hoped they would find the trigger of my migraine attacks. Unfortunately, however, that did not happen.
Even during the examinations I tried many miracle drugs, but – apart from not eliminating the underlying cause – they only managed to ease the symptoms temporarily. There were also times when headaches tormented me every day for 2–3 months. I was completely in despair.
2 years before my migraine piercing, I was taken to hospital by ambulance three times, because I even lost consciousness from the pain. Unfortunately, at the hospital they again tried unsuccessfully to find the main source of my complaint.
It was during the headaches that went as far as loss of consciousness and the hospital visits that I decided enough was enough – I had to find a lasting solution to my problem!
My friends had recommended migraine piercing to me even before, but I was very sceptical and always just waved it away. However, after the endless hospital visits I finally gave this method a chance too. I had nothing to lose.
For me it was incredible that I felt its effect after just 3 weeks! I simply couldn’t believe it! In the first month I still had headaches, but surprisingly I didn’t need medication to get through them.
A few weeks later, these headache periods gradually “wore away”, and today they only rarely appear, and even then I get through my daily tasks without any therapy.
Because of my own successful migraine piercing therapy I decided that I would like to give this to fellow sufferers too, and I have been doing this ever since.
Our wellbeing piercings do not count as a cure and do not replace medical treatment; the description of their effectiveness is based on our guests’ feedback.
