Treating migraine headaches with piercing?
Migraine headaches strike many people, but few know how to treat this agonising complaint that lasts for long days.
Stay with me and you will find out exactly what a migraine headache is, how you can recognise it, and which piercing helped our guests with their complaints. And at the end I will also tell you a little about the piercing.
What is a migraine headache? How do I know if I have one?
The cause behind migraine headaches is still unknown. Genetics may play a part, but it can be triggered by abnormal activity in the brain, which occurs periodically and temporarily changes the function of the affected brain area.
For now we can only rely on the observations of people who suffer from migraine attacks, on the basis of which it can be said that migraine headaches can be triggered by:
- hormonal change (much more common in the 3 days before and after menstruation)
- cold / warm weather fronts
- stress
- certain foods (e.g. wine, cocoa, coffee, cheeses)
- tiredness
Three types of migraine headache are known:
1. Migraine without aura: the headache simply “explodes” without any warning sign.
2. Migraine with aura: the attack is preceded by some warning sign, e.g. seeing sparks, numbness in the arm or leg.
3. Aura only, without migraine: a rarer variant of migraine headache, in which the headache itself does not develop, but other symptoms typical of migraine and the signs of the aura are present.
Symptoms of migraine headaches
The following complaints may indicate that you have migraine:
· it usually appears on one side only
· moderate / very strong throbbing pain
· it gets worse with movement
· in rare cases it can spread to both sides, the face and the neck area
The headache may be accompanied by:
· nausea, vomiting
· sensitivity to light and noise
· in rare cases: sweating, abdominal pain and diarrhoea, difficulty concentrating, hot flushes
In addition, if you have migraine with aura, it is worth mentioning the aura, i.e. the symptoms that appear 5 minutes to 1 hour before the headache as well:
- visual disturbances (flashes, zigzag patterns, blind spots)
- complaints starting in the hands (and then creeping up into the arm and face): tingling, numbness, loss of sensation
- speech disturbance
- dizziness / balance problems
- in rare cases fainting
There are many methods against migraine headaches, but in this article I will only present wellbeing body jewellery. If you would like to know more about migraine, I wrote about it in more detail in this article.

Which piercing was effective for others in easing migraine headaches?
I would like to present two piercings straight away. Let’s see what you need to know about them!
The most popular: migraine piercing
Of the piercings for migraine headaches, our guests most often choose the migraine piercing. The jewellery pierced into the fold above the ear canal has, according to our guests’ accounts, reduced the frequency and intensity of their headaches.
Migraine piercing has also been found effective for these headaches:
· migraine (with aura, without aura, and also in the case of aura only)
· weather-sensitive

For accompanying problems, Shenmen piercing has worked for many
There are 5 main acupuncture areas in the ear (i.e. NADA points), one of the most important of which is Shenmen. It means “Divine Gate”, and the area is located in the uppermost segment of the outer ear. This point has been used in China for more than 2,500 years for insomnia, memory problems, irritability and addiction.
Why do I usually recommend Shenmen piercing for migraine headaches? Well, although there is not yet enough medical research showing that Shenmen piercing eases migraine and other headache complaints, more and more of our guests notice that after the piercing was placed, their pain and the intensity and frequency of headache attacks decreased significantly.

Finally, let one of my guests’ reviews speak for me
First I had a migraine piercing, but somehow it didn’t bring the result I had hoped for. Then about 2 weeks later I went back to Medical Piercing, and they suggested the Shenmen as well. I agreed, because I didn’t want to take any more medication. I can say I absolutely don’t regret it! I am grateful that I didn’t give up, and thank you, Gabi, for your patience! I can only recommend it, especially the two together!
How is the piercing placed?
Placing a migraine piercing really takes only a few moments; the preparation before it takes much more time, but it is an essential process. In my studio first of all I carry out an assessment, in which I ask about any illnesses you may have, your current complaints, and the frequency and intensity of your headaches.
This is followed by determining the piercing site with pinpoint location, so that we can be one hundred per cent sure that the jewellery goes into the right point.
For the first piercing, by the way, the jewellery jewellery made of medical-grade metal, which I disinfect in an autoclave at the studio.
Many people don’t even feel the piercing, which lasts only a moment, while some describe it as a feeling like an insect bite. The degree of pain depends on the individual. In any case, we chat for a few more minutes while you sit in the chair, and in the meantime I check that everything is fine with your ear and how you are feeling. At this point we discuss all the other important things you need to do during the healing time of the migraine piercing. Don’t worry about not being able to remember them all, because later, among other things, you will also receive information about this by e-mail.
If everything is fine, I send you home, and then 2 weeks later I call you to ask how you feel, whether the piercing has worked and whether it has had the desired effect. If there is no positive change, we arrange another appointment for a guarantee piercing.
Our wellbeing piercings do not count as a cure and do not replace medical treatment; the description of their effectiveness is based on our guests’ feedback.
