To make it clear what ADHD is about, we have collected the most common questions and answers, so you can get a fuller picture in a few minutes.
What is ADHD?
ADHD is a neuropsychiatric (that is, nervous system and mental) disorder that affects various aspects of brain function, typically arising from disturbances in the functioning of the attention centre. In Hungary today this problem affects around 70,000 young people. It is most often diagnosed in children, but it can also occur in adults.
What can the causes of ADHD be?
A the exact causes are not fully known, but genetic, environmental and neurobiological factors may all play a role. There may also be cases where a lack of oxygen in the womb triggers ADHD.
What are the symptoms of ADHD?
The symptoms can be noticed relatively early, at the end of kindergarten or when starting school , because at this time children’s performance and ability to concentrate are assessed with various tasks. According to some specialists, the signs of ADHD can be seen as early as infancy, or at least from the age of 2.
The symptoms can be divided into 3 main areas.
Inattention:
- Difficulty maintaining attention and finishing activities.
- Frequent distraction and problems focusing.
- It may seem as if the person is daydreaming or not paying attention.
Hyperactivity:
- Constant need to move, restlessness.
- Find it hard to sit still.
Impulsivity – that is, acting without thinking:
- Make quick decisions without thinking through the consequences.
- Find it hard to wait their turn, often interrupt or cut others off.
With the symptoms, it must be considered whether they are present both at school/work and at home.

How is ADHD diagnosed?
ADHD is often almost invisible, which is why it is frequently an underdiagnosed problem. Basically, the diagnosis is made by a psychiatrist or other medical specialist.
The diagnosis is mostly made on the basis of the symptoms and with the help of clinical evaluations and tests.
What treatments exist for ADHD?
Drug therapy:
Stimulant medications, for example methylphenidate or amphetamine-based products, are often used to treat the symptoms. Non-stimulant medications can also be used, especially if stimulants are not effective or side effects develop.
Behavioural therapy:
Psychological counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy and parent training can help develop skills and manage behavioural problems.
Environmental and lifestyle changes:
Creating a structured environment, daily routines and thorough organisation can help people with ADHD carry out everyday tasks and activities.
People living with ADHD often cope successfully with the challenges, especially if they receive appropriate treatment and support. The symptoms can change with age, and certain circumstances can also influence their strength.
Shenmen piercing for ADHD symptoms?
According to acupuncture, the life energy of the human body, or “chi”, flows through certain channels (meridians). Shenmen is a point located along such a meridian, found in the ear, and stimulating it may have a positive effect on the human body, including a stress-reducing and pain-relieving effect.
Stimulating acupuncture points may improve general wellbeing in some people and reduce stress, pain and other symptoms; scientific research does not provide clear evidence that acupuncture effectively treats the symptoms of ADHD.
A Shenmen piercing is a wellbeing body jewel placed at the Shenmen point. Many of our guests struggling with ADHD have reported that after it was inserted they were able to slow down successfully and focus on important tasks for longer.
The treatment of ADHD is complex and usually individualised, and usually includes therapy, medication and other interventions, for example cognitive behavioural therapy or counselling. Before using other alternative therapies, it is always important to consult a doctor or other healthcare professional, especially in the case of a condition like ADHD, where effective treatment and support can be crucial.
This is how a Shenmen piercing is placed
At Medical Piercing, when you arrive at the practice, first of all we carry out an assessment before inserting the Shenmen piercing. We examine the condition of your ear, ask you about your complaints and also take your medical history.
After this, based on based on pinpoint location, we determine the exact place of the Shenmen piercing on your ear.
The piercings used at the practice are all made of medical-grade metal, which we sterilised in an autoclave before insertion.
The piercing takes only a few moments, during which you may feel an unpleasant sensation like an insect bite, but this sensation passes once the piercing made of medical-grade metal has been inserted.
After the piercing we chat for a few more minutes, meanwhile we check that everything is fine, then, if you have purchased one, we let you go home with the guarantee sheet. Even after this we don’t let go of your hand, because you will regularly receive important information by e-mail, including important advice on wearing and caring for the Shenmen piercing.
We consider following up our guests important, which is why after 2 weeks we ask you for feedback on how you have felt since the piercing was inserted, whether you have experienced any improvement and, if so, what, and if not, under the guarantee we arrange another appointment.
Our wellbeing piercings do not count as a cure and do not replace medical treatment; the description of their effectiveness is based on our guests’ feedback.
