Shenmen piercing for stress

Stress is part of our everyday life, affecting both our body and our mind in different ways. It is important to recognise the signs of stress and use effective strategies to manage it. A healthy lifestyle, relaxation techniques and appropriate social support can all contribute to reducing stress and maintaining good wellbeing, and the Shenmen piercing can also be an excellent complementary method.

But what is stress and how does it affect your body? How does the Shenmen piercing work for stress? What do experiences say? What positive effects can it have? Stay with us and you can get the answer to all your questions, and we will also show you some useful tips that have worked for us in managing stress.

Stress in brief

Stress is the body’s natural reaction to various challenges, threats or tensions. It is a complex physiological and psychological response that the body developed to help survival.

There are three types of stress.

Acute stress: Short-term stress that appears quickly and passes quickly. For example, the stress felt before an exam or a public speech.

Episodic acute stress: Frequently recurring acute stress, which can become chronic if the individual regularly faces stressful situations.

Chronic stress: Long-term stress that persists, for example due to ongoing financial worries, problems at work or a complicated family situation.

During the stress reaction, the body releases various hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol, which increase alertness, attention and energy. In addition, it can have further physiological effects, for example:

  • It activates the sympathetic nervous system, which triggers a “fight or flight” reaction.
  • It increases the production of cortisol and adrenaline, which raise the heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Long-lasting stress can weaken the immune system, making the body more susceptible to illness.
  • Increased stress can raise the risk of heart disease in the long term.
  • It can cause stomach problems, such as stomach ulcers, and can change appetite.

Stress also triggers many psychological effects:

· mood swings

· anxiety

· depression

· irritability and frustration

· difficulty concentrating

· memory problems

· difficulty making decisions

· changed eating habits

· sleep problems

· withdrawal/aggression

· drug and alcohol use

How the Shenmen piercing works in managing stress

Traditional Chinese Medicine distinguishes 5 main acupuncture points in the ear, known as NADA points, and the best known of these is the Shenmen point. The word Shenmen means “Divine gate”. By stimulating the special point located in the uppermost segment of the auricle, a calm, relaxed state can be achieved. According to one of the main principles of acupuncture, illnesses are caused by blockages in the flow of life energy (Qi, or chi), so the essence of the treatment is to restore the balance of the whole body through stimulation with tiny, hair-thin needles, which are placed along the meridians (energy channels).

A Shenmen piercing is also placed at this point.

People who already have a Shenmen piercing have reported the following:

  • their pain decreased / went away
  • they found it much easier to face more difficult situations
  • they got over stress-related tension more quickly
  • their everyday life was marked by a happier sense of wellbeing

It is important to note that individual experiences may vary, and not everyone reacts the same way to the effects of the Shenmen piercing. Some feel a change in their problem, while for others it is less noticeable. It is always important to be aware that these effects depend on individual sensitivity and the reactions of the person’s body, and in my experience, another piercing may sometimes be needed to achieve a positive result.

How much does placing a Shenmen piercing hurt?

Since the insertion of the piercing follows a preliminary location, the piercing itself happens very quickly, and at most you may experience an unpleasant feeling similar to an insect bite, which passes almost immediately after the medical-grade metal is inserted.

However, this brief, unpleasant moment is soon forgotten once you experience the positive effects of the Shenmen piercing.

Our wellbeing piercings do not count as a cure and do not replace medical treatment; the description of their effectiveness is based on our guests’ feedback.

* The total number of piercings was higher than this. The statistic is not official. The piercing is not an officially recognised therapeutic device but a wellbeing piece of jewellery, whose effectiveness is based on experience and feedback.
