Shenmen piercing during pregnancy – this is why it is not recommended

During pregnancy, there are many things worth paying attention to, and this list can be very long. When there is a problem, many expectant mothers would like to turn to alternative methods at this time, thereby reducing the amount of stress on the foetus. But can the Shenmen piercing be recommended during pregnancy?

Stay with us, and you can find out from our article how the Shenmen piercing works, in which cases it is not recommended, and what specialists say about having it done during pregnancy.

How does the Shenmen piercing work?

The Shenmen piercing is placed at one of the special points located in the upper part of the ear . In Chinese medicine and acupuncture, this point is known as “Shenmen”, that is, “The Gate of Inner Peace” .

According to our guests’ accounts, as a result of the piercing their pain decreased and their anxiety eased.

This is also why it is worth thinking about what effect the Shenmen piercing during pregnancy may have on the body of the mother and the foetus.

In addition, our guests reported the following effects:

Stress reduction: For many of our guests, wearing a Shenmen piercing has helped reduce stress and reach a calmer state, and as a result they have also noticed a positive change in the quality of their sleep.

Supporting emotional stability: Many have noticed that wearing a Shenmen piercing has contributed to their emotional stability and to maintaining emotional balance.

Improving general wellbeing: Our guests who wear the piercing often find that their general wellbeing improves and that they cope more easily with everyday stressful situations.

In which cases is it not recommended to get a Shenmen piercing?

There are certain cases in which placing a Shenmen piercing is not recommended.

For example, if any infection or inflammation occurs on the ear, then no piercing is recommended. The presence of an infection is not only unpleasant, but can even lead to serious complications.

During the healing time of an existing ear piercing it is also not recommended to get another piece of jewellery. The wound of a new piercing can easily become infected, which is why proper care and correct handling of the piercing are important.

If you are allergic to certain metals, for example nickel or other alloys, then the Shenmen piercing is not recommended, unless the studio you choose uses a material that does not trigger an allergic reaction.

In every case, it is important that you decide taking your individual circumstances into account and after consulting a specialist about having the piercing done. Read on and you can find out why the Shenmen piercing is not recommended during pregnancy.

Why is the Shenmen piercing not recommended during pregnancy?

It is important to make clear right at the start that various piercings, including the Shenmen piercing, are not recommended during pregnancy. The reason for this comes down to several factors:

1. Risk of infection: During pregnancy, women’s immune systems may weaken slightly, which may increase the risk of infection. Infection may occur when piercings are placed, which can cause complications, especially during pregnancy.

2. Discomfort during the healing time: The healing time of piercings can be long, and certain discomforts (such as swelling, pain) may also occur. During pregnancy, these can be even more bothersome and can affect the expectant mother’s general wellbeing.

3. Risk of complications: Any cosmetic procedure, such as having a piercing placed, carries a risk of complications. During pregnancy, however, complications can have more serious consequences for both the mother and the foetus.

Because of the reasons above, it may happen that most healthcare professionals do not recommend the Shenmen piercing during pregnancy. If someone already wears the piercing and becomes pregnant, it may be important to consult a doctor or specialist about the risks related to the jewellery and any further steps.

What do doctors say about the Shenmen piercing?

Many doctors are still cautious about wellbeing body jewellery, or say nothing about it at all. Most often this is because they have no experience of the topic or have never heard of it.

In my experience, a doctor who knows the Shenmen piercing and its principle of operation will recommend it. However, the Shenmen piercing during pregnancy is not recommended by doctors either.

Our wellbeing piercings do not count as a cure and do not replace medical treatment; the description of their effectiveness is based on our guests’ feedback.

* The total number of piercings was higher than this. The statistic is not official. The piercing is not an officially recognised therapeutic device but a wellbeing piece of jewellery, whose effectiveness is based on experience and feedback.
