What is a migraine piercing?
The migraine piercing is a special wellbeing body jewellery placed at a special point of the ear, and in this way it has reduced the frequency and intensity of headaches for many people. Although many people use it only as fashion jewellery, its positive effects on wellbeing have already been confirmed by many of our guests.
What is the migraine piercing and where exactly is it pierced? In which cases has it already helped others, and what may its positive effects be? How much does the piercing cost and how painful is it? You can get the answers to these questions from my article below!
About acupuncture
Indeed, based on the principles of acupuncture in the course of healing practice, it was observed that by stimulating – pressing, pricking – points treated along the meridians (energy lines), the body’s balance can be restored.
In 2017, Frontiers in Neurology published a casepresenting the story of a 54-year-old man who struggled with chronic migraine attacks. Almost every drug therapy had already been tried on the patient, but his symptoms still did not ease. The man was then included in the study carried out by Frontiers, during which regular ear acupuncture was performed on both his ears. After the treatments he needed fewer painkillers and took the mild tablet only about four times a month, at the lowest dose.
After that, the piercing craze began to spread in the Western world in the 1990s, first as fashion jewellery. Later, its positive effects on headaches were observed.
If you would like to know more about the migraine piercing, I have written a detailed summary here.
This is where the migraine piercing is pierced
A migraine piercing’s location: determining it requires great precision and accuracy, but today it is possible to have precise point location, thanks to which the piercing is sure to be placed in the right spot.
The body jewellery is pierced into the fold made up of the winding piece of cartilage above the ear canal.
In these cases the migraine piercing helped our guests
Contrary to its name, for a large percentage of the people who come to us it was effective not only for migraine this wellbeing body jewellery, but it also helped with the following headaches:
- cluster
- tension
- weather-sensitive
- hormonal

These were the positive effects of the migraine piercing
In our studio, a large number of guests reported that, as a result of the migraine piercing:
- a of everyday, agonising headaches the intensity and frequency decreased
- they were not afraid of another attack developing
A significant proportion of our guests, 93% of them, reported that the migraine piercing had a positive effect on them, and they were happy to share this with us.
Those who struggled with serious complaints reported that, as a result of the migraine piercing, the frequency and intensity of their symptoms decrease. According to our guests who reported mild complaints, these stopped almost immediately after the piercing was placed.
About the pain caused by the piercing…
The migraine piercing piercing itself only takes a few moments; the preliminary assessment takes much more time. As I determine its location based on device-assisted point location, the main procedure really does happen in the blink of an eye. Most often, people compare this pain to an insect bite, which in many cases passes completely after the jewellery is placed.
However, I must note that the perception of pain is completely individual. What is only a level-2 unpleasant sensation for you may be a level-10, really strong pain for someone else.
This is how much the migraine piercing costs

My guests’ opinions on the migraine piercing
First I had a migraine piercing, but somehow it didn’t bring the result I had hoped for. Then about 2 weeks later I went back to Medical Piercing, and they suggested the Shenmen as well. I agreed, because I didn’t want to take any more medication. I can say I absolutely don’t regret it! I am grateful that I didn’t give up, and thank you, Gabi, for your patience! I can only recommend it, especially the two together!
I am weather-sensitive; it doesn’t matter to me whether cold or warm weather is coming, my head just hurts and hurts. I had already tried everything, and the piercing was the last thing, because I was very afraid of the piercing. Fortunately, because of Gabi’s reassuring presence and experience, I felt the piercing too. Since then, my headaches have also decreased. Thank you!P.S.: I loved the practice, the environment is so friendly and everything is clean – I wish many would adopt this “good habit”!
I have struggled with migraine since I was a teenager; I regularly had to miss a few hours of school, at least once a month. As an adult, this wretched headache was also a burden in the world of work, then a colleague told me about the migraine piercing. It has been about 4 weeks since Gabi inserted the migraine piercing for me, and since then my complaints have decreased so much that I no longer have to take sick leave every month because of it. What I liked at Medical Piercing was the option of a guarantee and the online booking, after which I was sitting in the chair within 3 days.
Our wellbeing piercings do not count as a cure and do not replace medical treatment; the description of their effectiveness is based on our guests’ feedback.
If you would also finally like to try the migraine piercing and are looking for an experienced specialist, I look forward to welcoming you in my studio in central Budapest. Book online!
